Firmly convinced of the power of a smile, Gustav Ehrenreich created the cheerful Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The aim was to design a figure that would constantly remind people of the importance of staying positive and optimistic. Although the 1960s are often called "the happy sixties", this decade was marked by disturbing events. This is why the joy spread by Ehrenreich's design was welcome in a rather turbulent time. Bimble and Bumble are the very first Hoptimists created by the designer: a girl wearing a dress with smiling eyes and a boy with a stick on his head. Today, the cheerful Hoptimists are part of Danish design history and bring joy to the world.
