Firmly believing in the power of a smile, Gustav Ehrenreich created the joyful Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The aim was to design a figurine that would constantly remind us of the importance of staying positive and optimistic. Because, even though the 1960s are often called "the happy 60s," this decade was marked by disturbing events. Therefore, the joy spread by Ehrenreich's design was much welcomed during a rather turbulent time.
