Most smiles are triggered by another smile. The Hoptimist made of wood is the essence of smiling, optimism and good cheer. With its natural materials and round, harmonious look, it spreads joy wherever it goes. Firmly convinced of the power of a smile, Gustav Ehrenreich created the cheerful Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The goal was to design a figurine that would constantly remind us of the importance of remaining positive and optimistic. For, although the 1960s are often referred to as "the happy 60s," this decade was marked by disturbing events. That’s why the joy spread by Ehrenreich's design was welcome in a rather turbulent time. Bimble and Bumble are the very first Hoptimists created by the designer: a girl dressed in a dress with smiling eyes and a caring boy with a stick on his head. Today, the cheerful Hoptimists are part of Danish design history and bring joy all around the world.
