Firmly believing in the power of a smile, Gustav Ehrenreich created the joyful Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The aim was to design a figurine that would constantly remind us of the importance of staying positive and optimistic. Because, even though the 60s are often referred to as "the happy 60s," that decade was marked by unsettling events. That's why the joy spread by Ehrenreich's design was welcomed during a rather turbulent time.
