On their return journey to Egypt, Merit and Timos are shipwrecked and mistakenly captured by Roman soldiers. Reduced to slavery, they end up in the house of General Camille, in Rome. A good man and army leader, Camille fights against the rebellious peoples who are enemies of the Roman Republic. When Merit and Timos discover that a plot is afoot to overthrow the government and assassinate Camille, the young investigators decide to act to save the Republic and restore justice.
